A pull tab, sometimes called a pop top, is the small piece of aluminum used to open cans, like the ones found on soda cans.
You may also find pull tabs on pet food, canned fruits and vegetables, and other containers. However, not all of these tabs are made from aluminum.
Not sure if yours counts? Try a magnet. Aluminum tabs will not be attracted to a magnet. If the magnet sticks, the tab is made from another type of metal and should not be included in your collection.
Pull tabs are small, easy to collect and something almost anyone can do.
Once recycled, the proceeds from those tabs help Ronald McDonald House of Central and Southwest Georgia provide comfort and support for families with a child facing a medical crisis or hospitalization.
It’s also a wonderful way to introduce children and groups to giving back. One pull tab may not seem like much, but thousands of people saving them together can make an impact.
Did you know? It takes approximately 1,267 pull tabs to make one pound.
You don’t need anything fancy.
Use any clean container that makes it easy to collect and pour out your tabs. A clean milk jug, zip-top storage bag, cardboard box or other wide-mouth container works great.
Put one in your kitchen. Start a collection at the office. Ask your classroom to participate. Get your whole church or neighborhood involved.
When your container is full, bring your collection to Ronald McDonald House and we’ll take care of the rest.
Pull tab collecting is even more fun when you do it together.
Schools, classrooms, sports teams, civic organizations, neighborhood groups, churches and businesses can make collecting tabs a group project. You can even turn it into a friendly competition to see which classroom, department or team can collect the most.
However you choose to do it, every tab collected is one more small way your group can stand behind families when they need their community most.
Pull tabs may be dropped off at:
Ronald McDonald House of Central and Southwest Georgia
1160 Forsyth Street
Macon, GA 31201
Drop-off Hours:

If you have a large collection and need help bringing your pull tabs into the House, please call us ahead of time at 478-746-4090.
Once we’ve collected enough pull tabs, we take them to our recycling partner, SA Recycling in Macon.
The aluminum is recycled, and the proceeds come back to Ronald McDonald House of Central and Southwest Georgia to help support our operations and the families who rely on us.
It’s a simple cycle: collect, recycle, give back.
Grab a container and start saving those tabs. Invite your family, coworkers, classmates or community group to join you.
A small act, repeated over and over again, can become something pretty powerful.
